FoxPlay v8.4 Release Date: 01/09/04 --------------------------------------------------- This text file is provided to describe the known issues with the current release of FoxPlay. NOTE: YOU ASSUME ALL RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE DONE TO YOUR SYSTEM AS A RESULT OF RUNNING THIS SOFTWARE! While I believe most of the major bugs are gone, there may still be a few places where the program will crash or cause others to crash - if you come across any that are not listed here already, please let me know. My e-mail address as of this writing is kiefer@kieferskunk.net . Check out fp8_whatsnew.txt for information on new features, and be sure to check http://www.kieferskunk.net/foxplay.htm for updates. This program is freeware. Please feel free to distribute it to anyone you like. I prefer that you link to the official FoxPlay website rather than posting the distribution on your own site, since that way people can always get the latest version. :) mIRC Support Removed: -------------------- mIRC support has been removed from FoxPlay as of version 8.4. I made a personal decision to remove this support for a number of reasons: (1) I no longer want to support this feature because of possible legal issues stemming from FoxPlay being another "Kazaa" type of application. While it works on a different principle, it was getting uncomfortably close to this point. In addition, there are other, far handier programs (usually in the form of mIRC scripts) that can serve this purpose much better than FoxPlay can. (2) mIRC is continually changing, and its DDE system is quite flaky and unstable, and difficult to support. (3) I really just want to develop a player, not a distribution program, and I want to focus on making it the best frontend possible. Known Issues: ------------ * The Help File is really out of date. I plan to write up a new set of help documents in HTML format that will make maintaining the help system much easier. In the meantime, check out the "What's New" file for info on new features. NOTE ESPECIALLY that the sections on working with mIRC are now obsolete. * The HTML Export Wizard has a few known bugs and limitations. I haven't had much of a chance to work on it. * The Playlist filter does not support wildcards. To do a search using multiple words, type the words in any order, separated by spaces. * Pressing the "Help" button in the Options dialogs and Wizards may give you the error message "This topic does not exist", while hitting F1 in the Options dialogs will pull up the correct topic. * If you open the Auditioner and then an editor within the Auditioner, you will then be able to use the main Playlist Manager despite the Auditioner being open. If you close FoxPlay in this way, the Auditioner will stay open and will crash when you close it. * The Sync/Autodetect feature does not work with WinAmp 3 due to limitations with that program. By design, WA3 does not support the API functions that WA 2.x does. * Sync/Autodetect DOES work with WinAmp 5! HOWEVER: I highly recommend you use WA5 in "Classic Skin" mode, at least until the performance bugs are worked out with the modern skin. In my To-Do List: ---------------- * Minimize to Tray * Add a button that scans the registry to find the player program associated with a particular filetype. * Add the ability for FP to "guess" the Title/Desc for files using the naming scheme "Artist_-_Title" or "Artist - Title". * Rewrite the MP3 header and ID3 tag reader so it can correctly determine MP3 information (lengths, titles, etc). May instead just incorporate one of the WinAmp plugins if I can figure out how.
